Plaza de la Raza's School of Performing and Visual Arts has provided students across Los Angeles County with the opportunity to engage first-hand in the arts from courses in four major disciplines: visual art, dance, music, & theatre. With opportunities for students of all ages, courses ranging from entry level to conservatory level, and free classes for qualifying low income families, Plaza de la Raza has something for everyone!
We cordially invite you to Plaza de la Raza and Frank Romero Studio's Annual Holiday Art Sale and Auction at Plaza de la Raza Boathouse Gallery on Saturday, Dec 7th from 6pm-10pm & Sunday, Dec 8th from 1-6pm. Frank Romero has always considered this event to be a space where the community can meet the artist, have a conversation and develop a relationship, which is something you can not do in a commercial gallery setting.
Not only is this intimate event a good time for people to buy art for their own collections, but also as gifts for friends and family. We hope to see you there!Light refreshments and snacks will be served.
The Blue Hour is a documentary film and discussion series that will take place from February through April 2020 at Plaza de la Raza’s Margo Albert Theatre in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles. Project Director is local filmmaker Claudia Mercado. The monthly film screenings featured in this program will provide a communal space to see compelling, award-winning documentaries that will examine the theme of immigration ranging from local to global perspectives. Films will be followed by moderated discussions that will include filmmakers, professionals in the field of immigration work, and the individuals featured in these films.

Special special series of Spanish language art workshops continue at Plaza de la Raza in collaboration with the University of Guadalajara Foundation, USA. Con la ayuda del artista Ernesto Flores se busca rescatar la técnica prehispánica de elaborar pinturas sobre papel amate, como lo hacían en la cultura maya y azteca para elaborar sus códices en el que plasmaban su sabiduría e historia. Join us for Plaza de la Raza's Día de los Muertos Celebration on Friday, November 1st beginning at 5pm. This annual evening festival will feature dance, music, traditional ofrendas and activities for the entire family with special activities with the LA Rams. This event is FREE to the public, festive attire is welcomed and you are encouraged to bring photos and items loved ones for the various altares throughout the center.
Be sure to stop by the El Velorio exhibition at the Boathouse Gallery curated by Antonio Pelayo and Shana Nys Dambrot. The exhibit includes 200 Día de los Muertos-themed pieces by local artists for sale as a special benefit to our center and school. Boathouse Gallery hours of operation are Monday-Friday 11:00am-7:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm or by appointment.
Summer Session will end on September 14th! Save the Date for our upcoming Fall Session, registration will take place September 24-26th. Fall Session begins October 7th and will include 80+ classes and workshops in dance, music, theater, and visual arts for children, teens and adults. Plaza de la Raza hosts Sergio Ochoa’s fast paced one-man show El Cuidador (The Caregiver) is both a personal memoir and a tribute to his glamorous mother. Both tender and hilarious, Sergio Ochoa reminisces about his childhood as the son of famed Mexican comedic actress Leonorilda Ochoa, her remarkable life, and the challenges of juggling his career with his role as his mother’s caretaker, following her diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s Disease.
